About
A clearer place to start
OpenBrooks helps people in the United States explore insurance categories and find providers licensed where they live. That is the whole product.
Why state by state
Insurance in the United States is regulated at state level. Each state licenses the companies that may operate there, approves the policy forms they use, sets consumer protections, and runs its own complaint process. A national average tells you almost nothing about what you can actually buy.
So the first question OpenBrooks asks is where you are, and every page downstream is built around that answer.
What we do
We explain what each category of coverage is for and what tends to go wrong with it. We list providers by state and by category. We link to the department that regulates insurance where you live, so you can check a licence before you share anything personal.
What we deliberately do not do
We are not a carrier, an agency or a broker. We do not sell policies, bind coverage, or advise you on what to buy.
We do not publish rates, statutory minimums or required limits. Those are set by law, they change, and a confident stale number is worse than none. We point to the source instead.
We do not publish a “best insurer” ranking. Ordering on this site reflects our own listing priority, which compensated partners can influence. Calling that an independent assessment would be dishonest, so we do not.
How we are paid
Some providers compensate OpenBrooks when a visitor goes to them from this site. Where that applies, the listing says so on the card itself. Using OpenBrooks costs you nothing, and no provider can buy a claim about quality here — only placement, disclosed as placement.
How to check us
Every state page links to that state’s insurance department. Start there: licence lookups, complaint records and the actual legal requirements all live at the source rather than with us. If anything on this site conflicts with what a regulator publishes, the regulator is right.
