Privacy Policy

OpenBrooks is operated by OpenBrooks Media, LLC, a company formed in Delaware (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the website at openbrooks.com and nothing else. It is written for residents of the United States.

There are no accounts, no logins and no newsletter. We do not ask for your name, your email address or your phone number, and there is no form on this site that sends your details to us or to anyone else. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.

What we do hold is a record of how pages are used — which state was picked, which category, which listing was clicked. Those records describe the placement, not the person.

The answers you give the coverage finder — category, state, ZIP code and what you want to do — are held in your browser for the length of the session and used to work out which providers to show you. They are not transmitted to us and are not stored on a server.

Your ZIP code is never placed in an analytics event or in an outbound link.

Usage events. Which pages are opened, which states and categories are selected, which listings are shown, and which outbound links are clicked. No name, email address, phone number or ZIP code is included in any analytics event.

Technical data. Our hosting provider, and any analytics tag we deploy, receive the ordinary information a browser sends when it requests a page: IP address, user-agent string, referring page and the time of the request. IP address is treated as personal information under several state laws, which is why it is named here. It is used for delivering the site, for security, and for coarse country- or region-level aggregates — never to build a profile of you.

We do not knowingly collect Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, health records, precise geolocation, or any of the categories that California treats as sensitive personal information.

We use browser storage for functional purposes only, such as remembering that the opening sequence has already played in this session, and holding your coverage finder answers while you move between pages. That storage stays on your device.

Where an analytics tag is deployed it may set its own cookies to tell one visit from another. Any analytics or tag-management provider in use is named in this section before it goes live, and you can block these cookies in your browser without losing access to anything on the site.

Global Privacy Control. If your browser or extension sends a GPC signal, we treat it as a valid request to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information for that browser. Because we do not sell or share, this changes nothing in practice — but the signal is honoured rather than ignored.

Clicking through to a provider takes you onto their site, under their privacy policy. The link tells them which placement sent you — the page, the state, the category — and nothing about you. Anything you then choose to give the provider is between you and them, and we never receive it.

We are not responsible for how a provider handles your information. Read their policy before you submit anything, and check their licence with your state insurance department first.

We disclose the technical and usage data described above only to the service providers that make the site work — our hosting and content delivery provider, and our analytics provider — and only so that they can perform that service for us. We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect the site against fraud or abuse.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, as those terms are defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act. We have not done so in the preceding twelve months. We do not operate a lead-generation business and we do not pass consumer details to insurers or agents.

Coverage finder answers are discarded when your browser session ends. Server access logs are retained for up to 30 days for security and troubleshooting. Aggregated analytics — counts by page, state and category — are retained for up to 26 months and cannot be traced back to an individual.

The site is served over HTTPS and is published as static files, so there is no visitor database to breach. That is a design decision rather than a promise: no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Depending on where you live — California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana and a growing list of other states — you may have the right to know what personal information a business has collected about you, to obtain a copy of it, to correct it, to have it deleted, to opt out of its sale or sharing and of targeted advertising, and to be free from discrimination for exercising any of those rights.

Because we do not operate accounts, do not store the coverage finder answers, and do not build profiles, there is normally nothing held about you for us to produce or delete. We will still answer any request you make and tell you plainly what we do and do not hold.

To make a request, email privacy@openbrooks.com or write to us at the address above. We will respond within 45 days, and will tell you if we need a further 45 days. We may ask for enough information to verify that the request relates to you, and we will not use it for anything else. An authorised agent may act for you with written permission. If we decline a request you may appeal by replying to our response, and we will explain the outcome in writing.

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, so there is no opt-out to operate. If that ever changes, this section will carry a working opt-out before the change takes effect, and the date at the top of this page will be revised. You can send a GPC signal from your browser at any time, or write to privacy@openbrooks.com.

This site is intended for adults shopping for insurance. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, write to privacy@openbrooks.com and we will delete it.

OpenBrooks covers United States insurance only and is intended for people in the United States. The site is hosted in the United States. If you visit from elsewhere, the information described here is processed in the United States, where privacy law differs from the law where you live.

If this policy changes materially, the change will be reflected here and the date at the top of the page will be revised. Continued use after that point means the current version applies. Material changes are not applied retroactively to information already collected.
